The 11th Annual Sweet Onion Century will be held on May 5, 2007

With 24, 50, 63, 100 and 125-mile loops the Sweet Onion Century has a route for you. The lightly traveled quiet country roads on gently rolling terrain make this a great choice for novices and for those attempting their first century or Double-Metric. We aim for perfection, and think our routes are superb. Picturesque farms and small towns will keep you spinning with a smile at the beauty around you.
The rest stops (located from 8 to 21 miles apart) offer plenty of fruit, cookies, snacks, sports drinks, and water, all provided with a smile by local volunteers striving to host the friendliest rest stop on the ride. The cookout at the end will again feature those delicious Vidalia onion burgers and veggie burgers.
All riders registered by April 16 get a high quality tee shirt or other souvenir. All riders who complete the 63-mile, or 100-mile option will be awarded a Sweet Onion Century coffee mug, as shown or similar to this photo. Those who complete the 125-mile route receive a special mug that has, "I RODE THE DOUBLE METRIC! 125 MILES IN ONE DAY" on one side, with our Sweet Onion Century logo on the other, or similar.
| There is a cut-off time for the Double Metric. You must leave the rest stop at trip distance 79 miles by 1:15 p.m.; otherwise you will be asked to follow the 100-mile option from that point to the finish. You will be entitled to the regular Century Mug. |
The ride starts rain or shine with the 100 & 125-milers starting at 7:00 a.m. to help beat the heat and get everyone back to the finish by 5:00 p.m. The other ride options start at 8:00. The hours of operation for the rest stops are based on these start times so it is important that everyone observes this. : )
The Double Metric will be very challenging. We will probably have temperatures above 80 degrees. Headwinds on the last leg are likely. Train hard! "Gently rolling terrain" means we do have hills (by most anyone's standards).

| Free tent camping is available at nearby Partin Park in Lyons, or at Lamar Martin's house which will be a lot quieter (lot's of activities at Partin Park on Friday night). Access to restrooms and indoor camping available in the community center (no showers). |
Join us Friday evening, May 4, for a pre-ride celebration and dinner at Shoneys in Vidalia, a great place for dinner and fellowship. From Southeastern Technical College, go west on US 280 to Shoneys (about 3 blocks down) on the left.
The hotel rates at Vidalia's clean new hotels are very reasonable. We recommend the Holiday Inn Express (Call 912-537-9000 for reservations) or the Comfort Inn (Call 912-538-8100).
